Medicare Advantage is at a critical crossroads. Over the pass two years, Congress has enacted $13 billion dollars in cuts to Medicare Advantage funding and now Congress is considering even more cuts to help fund other budget priorities. Additional reductions in Medicare Advantage funding would result in increased beneficiary cost sharing, reduced benefits and fewer private plan choices. Please urge your members of Congress to maintain funding for the Medicare Advantage program.
Prior to enactment of the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) in 2003, inadequate funding forced over half of the Medicare Advantage plans to withdraw from the program, affecting millions of beneficiaries. Now, due to the reforms enacted in the MMA, the number of health plans participating in the Medicare program has nearly tripled giving more beneficiaries health plan options than ever before. Medicare beneficiaries now have access to one or more health plan options in 2007.
With your help, Congress can save our choice and protect this critical health care safety net. Please join us in calling on Congress to preserve beneficiary access to Medicare Advantage plans and the comprehensive, coordinated care they deliver.
